Nervous system regulation. Greater awareness. Embodiment. Spiritual clarity. Freedom.
The Shaman NYC is a private healing practice in Midtown Manhattan founded by Niko Karelas, LAc, MSAC — Master Clinician, Shaman and Spiritual Guide. The work integrates shamanic healing, acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Reiki and energy healing, somatic therapy, craniosacral therapy, sound healing, meditation and spiritual guidance.
But the purpose of coming to The Shaman NYC goes deeper than receiving a collection of treatments.
The purpose is transformation.
Many people who come to see me are already successful, intelligent and highly functional. They may be founders, executives, professionals, artists, performers, creatives or spiritual seekers.
From the outside, their lives may look extraordinary.
Yet internally, they may feel exhausted, disconnected or trapped in repeating patterns. Their nervous system rarely becomes completely still. They may understand themselves intellectually but struggle to embody what they know.
Others aren't coming because something is wrong.
They simply recognize that another level of awareness, clarity and freedom is possible.
That is where the work begins.
What Does a Shaman Do?
Traditionally, a shaman works beyond the purely physical dimension of the human being.
At The Shaman NYC, this ancient understanding is combined with modern clinical knowledge.
I am a Licensed Acupuncturist with a Master of Science in Acupuncture whose work has also encompassed Classical Chinese Medicine, Reiki and multidimensional energy healing, craniosacral therapy, somatic work, advanced meditation, shamanic healing, sacred sound and spiritual guidance.
My path has included decades of spiritual study and practice with shamans, Tibetan monks, Daoist priests, yogic masters and clinical teachers. Before founding The Shaman NYC, I also ran New York City's largest meditation center, bringing thousands of people together in meditation and inner transformation.
This background allows me to approach a person from multiple dimensions simultaneously.
Body. Nervous system. Energy. Mind. Spirit.
That integration is what distinguishes the work.
What Makes The Shaman NYC Different?
There are acupuncturists.
There are Reiki practitioners.
There are meditation teachers.
There are coaches, bodyworkers and spiritual guides.
My work exists at the intersection of these worlds.
Rather than applying the same technique to everyone, I draw upon different modalities according to the individual in front of me.
A session might incorporate acupuncture and Chinese medicine, somatic bodywork, craniosacral therapy, Reiki and energy healing, sound, meditation or spiritual guidance.
The modality is not the destination.
The person is the focus.
This is shamanic work approached with clinical precision.
Ancient intelligence without abandoning discernment.
Clinical knowledge without reducing a human being to symptoms.
Spiritual depth without spiritual performance.
What Happens During a Session at The Shaman NYC?
No two sessions need to be identical.
Depending upon what is needed, a private session can incorporate:
Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine
Reiki and advanced energy healing
Somatic therapy and bodywork
Craniosacral therapy
Sound healing and vibrational work
Meditation and breathwork
Nervous system regulation
Spiritual guidance
Strategic life guidance and integration
Sometimes the work is primarily physical.
Sometimes emotional.
Sometimes energetic or spiritual.
Often these dimensions overlap.
The intention is to create the conditions for unnecessary tension, noise and resistance to begin falling away so that you can hear and experience yourself more clearly.
Why Is Nervous System Regulation So Important?
Modern life keeps many people in almost continuous activation.
Work.
Phones.
Deadlines.
Relationships.
Achievement.
Information.
Responsibility.
Constant stimulation eventually becomes so familiar that people can mistake it for their natural state.
This is especially common among high performers.
You may function extraordinarily well while your body remains chronically activated.
But functioning is not the same as regulation.
And temporary relaxation is not the same as profound stillness.
When the nervous system begins to settle, something else becomes possible.
You can observe more clearly.
You can feel more deeply.
You can recognize patterns that were invisible while you were constantly reacting.
You create space between stimulus and response.
That space is extraordinarily important.
Awareness grows in stillness.
Why Are Weekly Sessions More Beneficial?
Transformation rarely happens because of one extraordinary experience.
It happens through integration and embodiment.
After a session, you return to life.
You return to work, relationships, responsibilities, technology, habits and the environments that continually stimulate your nervous system.
Weekly sessions create a consistent point of return.
Regulate. Observe. Release. Integrate. Embody.
Instead of waiting until you are depleted or overwhelmed, you repeatedly return the body and mind to a deeper state of regulation.
And something begins to change.
You recognize patterns sooner.
You become more conscious of what drains you.
You become more aware of your reactions.
Stillness becomes increasingly familiar.
Your understanding becomes lived experience.
This is why regular work can become much more than “self-care.”
It becomes training in how you inhabit your own life.
Can One Healing Session Feel Like a Retreat?
A deeply immersive private session can create an unusual concentration of healing, awareness and stillness.
You temporarily step outside the momentum of everyday life.
The phone stops.
The demands stop.
Your attention stops scattering in a hundred directions.
Because several healing modalities may be integrated within one concentrated experience, clients can sometimes experience a depth that feels comparable to stepping away for several days.
I describe it this way:
One deeply immersive session can feel like three days of retreat compressed into a few hours.
The point is not the literal measurement of time.
It is the depth of attention.
For those hours, you are not escaping yourself.
You are finally meeting yourself.
Awareness Is the Beginning. Embodiment Is the Goal.
You can understand yourself intellectually and remain completely trapped in the same patterns.
You can understand your childhood.
Understand your fears.
Understand your relationships.
Understand attachment.
Read hundreds of spiritual books.
Meditate.
Study consciousness.
And still live from fear.
Knowing is not embodiment.
Awareness allows you to see the pattern.
Embodiment means your body, nervous system, decisions and life begin reflecting what you have understood.
This is one of the central purposes of my work.
Awareness is the beginning. Embodiment is the goal.
The question is no longer simply:
What do I know?
It becomes:
What am I actually living?
What Is Spiritual Guidance For?
Authentic spiritual guidance should not create dependency upon a teacher.
Its purpose is freedom.
My role is to help you see.
Where is fear making decisions for you?
Where has conditioning replaced truth?
Where has success become identity?
Where has love become dependency?
Where are you seeking approval?
Where are you betraying what you already know?
Where has the mind created a prison and called it security?
Greater awareness creates greater choice.
And with greater choice comes greater freedom.
The purpose is not to tell you who to become.
It is to help remove what prevents you from experiencing who you already are.
Who Comes to The Shaman NYC?
My work is particularly suited to people who are ready to move beyond surface-level wellness.
This includes:
Founders, CEOs and executives carrying significant responsibility and constant mental demands.
High-performing professionals who are successful externally but seek greater internal clarity and regulation.
Artists, musicians, performers and creatives whose sensitivity and inner state directly affect their work.
Spiritual seekers moving through awakening, transformation or major transitions.
People experiencing burnout or stagnation who recognize that another accomplishment may not create the peace they are looking for.
People already engaged in personal development who understand themselves intellectually and are ready to embody that understanding.
And people who simply know:
There is another level of freedom available to me.
Do I Need to Be Spiritual to See a Shaman?
No.
You do not need to follow a particular religion or spiritual philosophy.
Some clients initially come for acupuncture, physical tension, stress or nervous system support.
Others specifically seek Reiki, energy healing, meditation, sound healing, spiritual guidance or deeper transformational work.
The work meets the individual where they are.
Is Shamanic Healing the Same as Therapy?
No.
The work at The Shaman NYC is not psychotherapy and does not replace appropriate medical or mental-health care.
It is an integrative approach drawing from Eastern medicine, body-based modalities, energetic healing, meditation and spiritual guidance.
These practices can also exist alongside conventional healthcare, psychotherapy, exercise and other forms of support.
What Does “Shaman” Mean at The Shaman NYC?
The word shaman has increasingly become a marketing term.
For me, it represents a sacred responsibility rooted in training, initiation, lineage, lived practice and service.
My work does not involve fortune telling, paranormal entertainment, voodoo or brujería.
The focus is healing, consciousness, energetic balance, nervous system regulation, spiritual connection and personal evolution.
Ancient work brought into a modern private clinical environment.
